SCIATICA PAIN – Am I in the RIGHT or WRONG PLACE?

SCIATICA PAIN – Am I in the RIGHT or WRONG PLACE?

Tampa, New Tampa, Lutz, Land O’ Lakes, Wesley Chapel, FL

Millions of Americans are in need of treatment for their sciatica pain.  Treatment requires a multipronged strategy. Without the right expert evaluating a person for their specific sciatic pain the correct treatment will most likely never be rendered and healing will never truly take place.

A Pinched Nerve Can Cause Sciatica Pain

Sciatica is a broad diagnostic term involving any issue that may irriate the sciatic nerve. The human body has two sciatic nerves. The sciatic nerve is like a large cable wire that extends from the buttocks down the back of each leg into the foot. When the sciatic nerve and/or the nerves that make up the sciatic nerve are pinched a person will often experience sciatic pain. Sciatic pain can be described as a myriad of sensations. Most people describe it as ‘lightning-like pain’ that ‘shoots’ down the buttock and down the back of their leg. Others describe sciatic pain as numbness, tingling, a hypersensitivity to touch, cramping, warmth, cold, and weakness in the buttock, leg ankle and foot.. So if a person has a sciatic- pain then what is treatment?

An experienced orthopedic, neurologist, or physical therapist must first examine the patient and determine what is the reason for the sciatica pain. This part is crucial, if the correct reason for the pain is not determined a person may receive sciatica pain treatment that makes the symptoms worse. Is the actual sciatic nerve being pinched? In the vast majority of patients I work with in my physical therapy private practice, Sport and Spine Physical Therapy and Wellness Center serving the Tampa, Lutz, Land O Lakes, New Tampa, Wesley Chapel, FL, that truly require treatment for sciatica pain, this is not the case. The problem is actually occurring higher up. The sciatica pain is usually stems from a pinched nerve in the lower back, The reason for the sciatic nerve pain is that pinched nerve merges with other nerves to create the big sciatic nerve.  Your orthopedic, neurologist, or physical therapist must determine what is pinching the nerve. When it is determined what is causing the pinched  nerve, the correct sciatica pain treatment can be determined.

If you are seeking treatment for your sciatica pain and your treatment plan does not contain a multifaceted approach listed below, you are in the wrong place.

Sciatica Pain Treatment

  1. Core Stabilization Program-(individualized to the person).
  2. Specific Streching of Certain Muscles.
  3. Specific Strengthening of Certain Muscles.
  4. Spinal and Hip Realignment.
  5. Decompression (Otherwise Known as Traction).
  6. Massage, Myofascial Release by a Trained Physical Therapist.
  7. Whelton Method – A breakthrough treatment that often; decreases or eliminates pain and spasms and increases range of motion and healing rate by twice as fast – all in just 15 minutes or less.

If you are currently undergoing sciatica pain treatment that solely consists of spinal manipulation or adjustments of  your spine and hips, and maybe a massage, I recommend you get out!

Be well!
