The WMRT Approach

What’s special about Sport and Spine Physical Therapy and Wellness?

We often talk about immediate pain relief and faster healing, but the way that we achieve these goals has to do with innovative treatment plans.

Something called the Whelton Myofascial Referred Technique (WMRT) is instrumental in the treatment of our patients.

But what does that mean?

What is ‘myofascial?’

The word ‘myofascial’ in itself is mysterious. Lots of people don’t really understand what it means. It’s not really evident from the word itself.

Myofascial just means that whatever you’re referencing is ‘facing’ the muscles in a direct way. Medical professionals talk about fascia tissues, which are bands or sheets of collagen laying against the muscles to help them do their work. We rely on these body connections for our health.

Then there’s something called myofascial pain, where people have problems with these tissues. So myofascial methods help to deal with the fascia and their connection to the body’s muscles and tissues.

Myofascial Methods

The myofascial methods that we use have to do with specific angles and positioning. When you achieve a very particular and precise positioning of the fascia tissues, you get results.

These results can include instant pain relief and decrease muscle spasms. They can help to improve a patient’s range of motion and really enhance his or her quality of life. They can accelerate healing and make other kinds of costly and painful interventions completely unnecessary.

All of these things are achieved by improving the positioning of the myofascial tissues against the muscles. This very much leads back to the central idea in chiropractic care, which is that pain and other symptoms can be a result of a profound or even a minor imbalance. Where the body is unbalanced, we correct those imbalances and solve the problem for the patient.

Another way to think about this is that our tissues and muscles and nerves are all packed together very tightly in the body. So understanding that anatomy can work wonders for medical professionals. When people get tired of just treating things with pills and surgeries, they start looking at these types of care and systems, because there’s so much potential, for example, in the Whelton myofascial referred technique and the treatment of myofascial tissues. If you can correct the imbalance instead of feeding your pain with a pill, why wouldn’t you do that?
